A BIKER CAME TO MY WIFE’S GRAVE EVERY SINGLE WEEK, AND FOR MONTHS, I HAD NO IDEA WHO HE WAS…
kids had finished their homework. The woman I thought I knew completely.
She had quietly saved a child’s life.
And she had never asked anyone to know.
Mike looked at Emily’s grave.
“That’s why I come here every Saturday.”
I couldn’t speak.
He continued.
“I don’t come because I think she was mine.”
He shook his head.
“She was yours.”
“She was the love of your life.”
“I come because every week, I want to remind myself that somewhere in this world, there is a woman who made the most important difference in my daughter’s life—and she never asked for anything in return.”
Then he stood.
He placed his hand against Emily’s headstone one more time.
And suddenly, I understood why he’d been coming every Saturday.
He wasn’t visiting a secret lover.
He wasn’t hiding some scandal.
He wasn’t trying to take my wife’s place.
He was keeping a promise.
